Getting there
Getting there
Almost every trip to Khasansky District starts in Vladivostok. From there you can head south in your own or a rental car, by bus, by sea in the warm season, or with an organised tour if you are visiting protected areas. Each option has its advantages: a car gives you freedom to choose your coves, a bus spares you a long drive, and the sea route becomes part of the holiday in itself. Below is a comparison of the options, tips on the road and phone coverage, and a short note on the border zone. We do not give timetables or fares.
The road to southern Primorye is part of the trip, not an obstacle. Leaving plenty of time for it turns out to be the best investment in a relaxed holiday.
How to get there
| Option | When it works well | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Car | Visiting several coves, a weekend on the coast, a family trip | Access roads to coves are often unpaved; fill up in advance and do not drive onto the beach where it is prohibited |
| Bus | Reaching coastal villages without a car | There may be few services; check with the carrier in advance how to get back the same day |
| Boat | The warm season and calm weather | Sailings depend on the weather and may be cancelled; keep a backup option by land |
| Organised tour | Visiting protected nature areas and restricted sections | Check whether the route is agreed with the reserve or national park and which documents to bring |
The road and staying connected
- Set off in the morning so you reach your accommodation or get back before dark
- Download an offline map: phone coverage on the coast and in the forest can be patchy
- Bring a power bank and keep your phone charged
- Tell someone close to you your route and when you plan to be back
- Slow down on dirt roads, especially after rain
- Do not leave your car on the carriageway or by the gates of guarded sites
