The Posyet Bay coast
Posyet Bay is the south-western part of Peter the Great Gulf, between Cape Suslov and Cape Gamov. The shoreline is deeply indented, so cliffs, capes and quiet inlets follow one another.
An independent travel guide to Khasansky District. This is not the website of the district administration, a nature reserve or a tour operator, and it is not connected with the former website on this domain. Check border-zone and protected-area rules with official sources.
Destinations
Khasansky District offers two very different kinds of trip side by side. One takes you to the sea coast of Posyet Bay, with its coves, capes and coastal villages. The other leads to the forests in the west of the district, home to Land of the Leopard National Park and Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve. That is why it is easier to choose a destination here by type of trip rather than by village name: sea and beach, a boat trip, protected wild nature or a look at life on the coast. Below are six such types and four questions to help you decide. We do not list prices, timetables or addresses; check those with the original sources.
Here you choose a destination twice: first by what you love, then by the rules. It is best when both choices agree.
How we selected these destinations: they are trips you can plan without buying a tour, and the information about each place is based on encyclopaedic sources and the rules of the protected areas.
Six types of trip around the district, from the beach to protected forest.
Posyet Bay is the south-western part of Peter the Great Gulf, between Cape Suslov and Cape Gamov. The shoreline is deeply indented, so cliffs, capes and quiet inlets follow one another.
Small coves with beaches are the main reason for summer trips to southern Primorye. Choose a cove by how you can reach it and by the wind forecast for the day.
Expedition Bay: quick facts (in Russian)
The peninsula and the surrounding waters are part of the Far Eastern Marine Biosphere Reserve, and a lighthouse stands on Cape Gamov. The protected areas are visited under the reserve's rules, usually on an organised tour.

Land of the Leopard National Park and Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve protect the home of the Amur (Far Eastern) leopard. Visitors may only use permitted routes and must follow the park's rules.
Posyet, Zarubino and Kraskino lie on Posyet Bay, while the district centre is the town of Slavyanka. The villages are handy for restocking and sitting out bad weather; respect the quiet local way of life.
The indented coastline is best seen from the water: cliffs, islands and capes. Only go out to sea with people who are responsible for the boat's safety, and only in suitable weather.
Four questions worth asking yourself before the trip.
Swimming, peace and quiet by the water, a boat trip or an encounter with protected nature: each goal needs its own preparation and has its own season.
Part of the district belongs to the border zone. Find out in advance whether this affects your route and how to apply for a pass if you need one.
The nature reserve and the national park have their own rules: where you may walk, with whom and at what times. Read them before you start planning your day.
For a day trip from Vladivostok, pick one goal not far from the road. To combine coves, a boat trip and a guided tour, you will need at least a couple of days.
Three routes: a day by the sea from Vladivostok, a weekend on Posyet Bay and a guided trip to protected areas.
Capes, bays, islands, a lighthouse and forested slopes: what to look for and how to behave in protected areas.
Where Cape Gamov and Gamov Peninsula are, the marine reserve and the lighthouse, and what to bring on a tour.
This guide describes the district in general terms. Border-zone rules, the rules for visiting the nature reserve and the national park, transport services and coastal weather all change, so check them against official sources shortly before your trip.
